ABOUT ANTALYA

Antalya is one of the most important tourism and agricultural centers of Turkey. Its population is 2,288,456 as of the end of 2015. Antalya is the fifth biggest city of Turkey with regard to population.

The whole city is located at the west of the Mediterranean Region, between the Gulf of Antalya and Western Taurus Mountains. Antalya is the sixth biggest city of Turkey with its surface area of 20,909 km2.

It is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea on the south; MuÄŸla province on the west; Burdur and Isparta provinces on the north; Konya province on the northeast; Karaman, and Mersin provinces on the east.

​

Antalya city developed after 1980 due to suitable climatic conditions and tourism activities. Accordingly, it became the fifth most  populous province of Turkey. Economy of Antalya depends on largely trade, agriculture and tourism.

The area of Antalya province hosted various civilizations from prehistoric age to date. It is the province having the highest number of antique cities. Until today, it became home to numerous civilizations including Lycians, Lydians, Pamphylians, Pergamons, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks and Ottomans, respectively.

The whole province is located at the Antalya Part of the Mediterranean Region and under the effect of the Mediterranean climate. Average temperatures of Antalya during summer and winter are about 35-40°C and 10-15°C, respectively. The average yearly temperature is about 19°C.

​

Mild climate and arable soil of Antalya allow a broad array of products, especially vegetables and pulses to be grown. These fertile lands are the most natural resource in creation of the local tastes. You will find the unimagined types of jams in Antalya. Perhaps, you will taste several types of sea food for the first time in Antalya. You will be amazed at such rooted and rich local cuisine.
